1974-our history
The Genesis brand was established in 1974 by Basil Pollock and was immediately supported by those looking for a fast, economical cruiser.
In 1985 Chris Pollock, managing director and qualified boat builder, elevated Genesis Marine to a higher level with the Genesis 3100, the first mid-sized, soft-top, sports-cruiser built in New Zealand. This innovative production model proved a great success and 36 were sold before the Genesis 320 superseded it in 1990. |

The Genesis 320 was also an open-top sports-cruiser and in deference to New Zealand’s changeable weather the Genesis 320 Targa was released in 1992. This stylish hardtop version was immensely popular and over 100 were built. They continue to be sought after purchases on the open market.
Demand for a larger model with extended living space and range coupled with the 320’s proven blue-water performance and economy, resulted in a two-year development programme culminating in the release of the Genesis 400 Targa Saloon in 1998. The Genesis 400 Flybridge followed soon after and a panel of industry peers judged it the winner of two prestigious awards when it was released at the New Zealand Boat Show in June 1998.
The Genesis 335 Targa, a development of the successful 320, but with an all-new deck, superstructure and interior layout designed to compete with the best in the global market, was released at the New Zealand Boat Show in 1999. It won New Zealand Powerboat of the Show and, like its predecessor, became a buyer’s benchmark.

Our Team ...
Our development team then looked to a modern interpretation of the alfresco concept first touched on in our 3100 and 320 soft-top models. They developed a practical but luxurious craft optimized for outdoor enjoyment, warmth and protection. In recognition of our growing international customer base the 2000 International Sanctuary Cove Boat Show held in Queensland, Australia, was chosen to debut the Genesis 400 Targa.
A contemporary 12.5 metre all-weathered sports cruiser that caters to alfresco dining and socializing without sacrificing practicality, luxury and comfort. But not to be misled… this Genesis is still designed for serious blue water cruising and became the first boat in the southern hemisphere to be equipped with Volvo Penta’s new IPS drive system at 42 knots, the worlds fastest IPS500 powered sports cruiser, this popular Genesis was to be fitted with an extended boarding platform which increases the platforms usability and fishing capability and has become a popular feature of the Genesis vessels today.

Around New Zealand speed record challange |

Although manufacturing a strong portfolio of refined production models our development team recognized that excellence is only maintained through progression. After extensive development the Sanctuary Cove show was once again selected to present Genesis Marine’s latest offering to our Pacific Rim customers the Genesis 360 Targa.
This new model in early 2002 once again contributed another market leader with the introduction of the 360 Targa replacing the highly regarded 335. As a result of incremental development of the 3100, 320, 335 models that were so successfully sold before it, the 360 Targa soon became a kiwi family favorite. By reconfiguring and modernizing the interior of the 335 by perfecting it for family over-nighting, along with the addition of an extended boarding platform, new helm station and including an in-built BBQ, the model was rebadged 360 and was soon considered as an ‘affordable achiever’ and exceptional cruising value, ideal as a stepping stone for those with trailer boats and wanting the extra room for entertaining family and friends. It is easy to see why the 360 Targa is still ever-popular today; winning numerous New Zealand Boat Show awards and over 85 sales combined with the Genesis 335 Targa model have now been achieved.
The team then realized the world buying trends were to purchase larger craft and in 2006 under took to design and fabricate an even larger model range.
This new V Cruise and V Sport cruiser model option was introduced to take the brand into the larger boating market. The Targa range at 30 40 feet would be built along side the V Cruise and V Sport range at 44 52 feet.
The new 44 V Cruise is now the latest in the very successful range of Genesis sports Cruisers. Genesis designers have departed from their traditional look with this model and the topsides and design introduce a sporty laid back flair that incorporates a low profile European style screen cabin structure which includes a functional electric sliding sunroof design, all in keeping with the move towards a visual impact that will turn many heads. Engineered with Volvo Penta revolutionary new forward facing IPS drives, the IPS 500 system propels this light displacement moderate V hull across the waters at 39.5 knots making it one of the fastest IPS and soft riding boats on the market. The Genesis 400 is the world’s fastest IPS powered sport cruiser at 42 knots, and the 44 V Cruise hull is a reconfigured Genesis 400 and the superstructure is all new.
The styling is based on the European look with a wide wrap-around front screen that had a significant bearing on the final look of the boat. Not dissimilar to that used on mega sports yachts, the screen is sophisticated, trendy and proportionate with the rest of the boat and enabled Genesis to increase the size of their model range and adds the ‘big boat’ touch and feel to their product. With four boats sold prior to launching the first and eleven sold to date (May 2008), the successful combination of Volvo Penta IPS and Genesis encompasses yet another winner and if you like the 44 V but still think it’s too small then wait around until late this year (2008), because the V 52 is going to be a stunner.
The first two, 52 V Sport and V Cruise have already been sold and both will be getting new IPS600’s, another exciting Genesis drive.
