This new V Cruise model range has been introduced to suit the Genesis client who requires to step up, in boat size to 50 feet plus. Soon to be released are two new 52 V Cruise and V Sport, which are to be launched in the near future.
Genesis designers have departed from their traditional look and the topsides and design to introduce a sporty laid back flair that incorporates a low profile European style screen cabin structure which includes a functional electric sliding sunroof design, all in keeping with the move towards a visual impact that will turn many heads.
Forward access on both sides is via moulded steps with attractive teak inserts and are LED illuminated for safety at night. The bow rail incorporates both functionality and style to compliment the flow of the boat and stainless side grab rails are inconspicuously neat.
At the bow a spotlight is fitted on the rail and a Maxwell anchor winch is located out of sight in the anchor well. On the foredeck two generous sunbathing loungers and accompanying drink holders serve to make any sunny day one worth relaxing on.
The teak swim platform and cockpit are roomy and uncluttered. Mood LED lighting illuminates the cockpit and swim platform at night. A rear facing barbeque and washbasin can be found recessed in the Portofino stern and are accessed from lift-up lids when on the swim platform. This makes for sheltered food preparation and easy wash down.
Cooking and/or fishing can be enjoyed without disturbing those who want to sit in the cockpit area which makes for greater social interaction and allows for simultaneous entertaining and dining. The foldout leaf table in the saloon has a portable pedestal and is ideal for this. A stainless arch at the rear of the swim platform serves as both a tender bracket and bait-board holder, a recessed dive ladder that is flush and very convenient, and pop-up cleats. There is ample storage area on the inside of the portofino that combines the gas bottle, a boot locker and stern seat for two which remains dry when underway.
The cockpit floor lifts electrically by the way of a hydraulic strut to expose the engines which are very compact allowing for storage in the hull as well as stern shelf storage inside the boarding platform.
The Saloon main feature is an ingenious set of custom made triple curved aluminium sliding doors which run roof to floor and let in a lot of natural light; thus opening visual access to the interior. The indoor-outdoor flow is made seamless by the use of a walnut veneer with three other options and a holly wooden panelling floor to suit your choice of veneer in the saloon. The side windows are split by walnut panelling which is complimented by cream padded leatherette style vinyl on the walls and ceiling and throughout the cabins which inadvertently acts as soundproofing between all cabins. Electrically operated windows and blinds on either side are a nice touch as is a LCD 15” TV mounted on a levered foldout bracket for saloon or cockpit viewing. Quality sound system with speakers in the cockpit, saloon and through into the forward cabin. There is settee seating amidships on both port and starboard with quality tan/cream ultra leather finish and pullout draw storage underneath.
Air conditioning/heating is another comfort that has been added with outlets throughout the saloon and cabins, so no doubt owners of this vessel will end up entertaining often as the open layout of the saloon is conducive to taking friends away for a weekend as well as extended family holidays. A mini pullout bar sits forward of the port settee and has nice walnut sides and a bench top with black avonite finish. There are three other avonite colour way’s to compliment the choice of wood veneer. Next to this the L-shaped forward settee is raised and gives good visibility through the front windscreen, this would make a great “morning coffee” or “breakfast area”.
Accompanying the L-shaped forward settee is a side table which can swing out and be used also by the skipper. It has an impressive stainless pedestal mount which doubles as a side rail and provides an element of safety when young children are onboard. Forward of the seating, under the front screen, is a hatch window that provides natural light for the portside cabin below.
The Aft galley features an L-shaped bench on port adjacent to the sliding doors. Bench tops are black Avonite which is user-friendly as scratches can be redressed. There is ample walnut-finished storage both overhead and below in 5 self-closing drawers and shelving all of which have stainless racking. A decent faucet accompanies a deep sink and shallow drip sink with draining rack, chopping board and inserts to maximise bench space when not in use. A top load 85L freezer is accessed through the bench top and the 130L fridge sits starboard opposite the galley. Cooking options are made easy with a gas hob stove, under which is a recessed microwave/convection oven.
Moving down the companionway steps into a generous carpeted hall LED illuminated for safety at night, sees access through walnut doors with aluminium powder coated framing. A twin bunk cabin is located portside and a double berth to starboard. Both are well finished with walnut cupboards and avonite side tables.
The bathroom/head is well ordered with overhead cupboards, stainless sink with storage beneath and chrome faucet and separate shower head with sturdy chrome rack accessories. The toilet sits flush with the moulded fibreglass surround with the large mirror, porthole and overhead hatch providing good natural light.
The forward cabin is a double island berth with a 4-bed V berth option. There is ample overhead and under-bed storage and two half size wardrobes either side. A large hatch with pull out mesh/blockout blind and mood LED lighting around its circumference features above the bed. An LCD 20” TV and the well appointed and luxurious ensuite well defines this cabin.
The double helm seat is located fairly well amidships mounted on an adjustable pedestal. Helm navigation electronics are well placed for functionality coupled with the sporty carbon-fibre inserts. The 50 Vcruise can be fitted with various engine packages including VOLVO PENTA IPS600 engines. The competitive edge of the IPS engines lies in their manoeuvrability and this is proven by literally being able to move sideways as the IPS propulsion units rotate as directed by the VOLVO PENTA joystick docking system that makes berthing simple and bowthrusters unnecessary. Heading into typical NZ chop the 50 Vcruise is comfortable, even with the electric sunroof retracted it is amazingly windless inside and adds volume to the ambient saloon atmosphere at anchor.
A meritorious addition to the already popular Genesis range the 50 Vcruise is a ‘must see’. All in all this is a beautiful vessel that combines luxury, affordability and versatility that will no doubt prove a hit with existing Genesis owners and newcomers alike.
