The sleek lines of the new Genesis 450 Targa Saloon incorporate luxurious live-aboard amenities for extended trips and a generous cockpit optimised for outdoor living, entertainment, fishing and diving. Although a big boat in terms of cockpit space, interior volume, live-aboard facilities, sea-keeping and stability, the 450 Targa Saloon retains our signature small boat performance and easy-to-use attributes. The design’s profile minimizes windage and a combination of twin drives married to an optional bow-thruster provides exceptional agility in the marina and at close quarters.

With an overall length of 13.8m (45.27ft) and a waterline length of 11.5m (37.73ft) the Genesis 450 is capable of maintaining fast cruising speeds in rough conditions. Twin 310hp Volvo Penta stern drives return a relaxed 30-knot cruising speed and a sprint speed of 36 knots. The 450’s ultra efficient hull form provides excellent fuel economy and the 450 burns a miserly 2.97 litres per nautical mile at a genuine 30 knots (subject to the vessel’s final cruising weight). Fuel consumption at 36 knots is just 3.6 litres per nautical mile, or put in imperial terms, less than eight-tenths of a gallon per nautical mile.
While twin Volvo Penta D6 engines and stern drives return excellent performance and economy, other drive options include shaft drives coupled to engines of choice or Volvo’s all-new IPS drive which is available in 310hp and 370hp versions.

The 450’s highly refined interior blends elements from the 360 and 400 models to create a free-flowing open-plan design that ensures all working and living areas are integrated into the vessel’s social framework. Sight lines extend from the galley through the saloon to the cockpit and no one area is isolated from another. However, while visual and social connections are maximised, each area is clearly defined and optimised for its particular function.

The layout is engineered around three primary sectors; an extraordinary large cockpit, a plush saloon with an integrated helm station and the forward area that carries the gourmet galley, two comfortable double cabins, combined toilet/shower and a utility area containing a dish-draw and washer-dryer. The cockpit and saloon are contiguous and on the same level, and the galley is three steps down.

The live-aboard convenience provided by the dish-draw and washer-dryer is extended by an optional water maker which, together with 1000 litres fuel capacity, provides the independence to stay away for long periods. An 8Kva genset located against the forward bulkhead in the engine room powers the vessel’s electric appliances and keeps the batteries fully charged, and a holding tank allows normal life to continue close inshore.

The expansive cockpit can be configured for outdoor living, entertaining or fishing and, because these pastimes often merge, the 450 has the flexibility to provide for any combination of the three. A removable dinning table, folding seats built into the coamings and an optional canopy over the table complement the BBQ station and collectively facilitate el fresco family life and social gatherings.

The teak-soled cockpit more than doubles the available living space, but by removing the table and folding the seats down it can be optimised for sport-fishing, game-fishing or water sports in a matter of minutes.

Twin transom doors provide optimum convenience when accessing the swim platform or working around the central BBQ station that also houses the eutectic cockpit freezer / fridge, sink and hot freshwater shower. The extended swim platform, which carries two (optional) live bait tanks and a dive ladder to provide an easy exit from the water, also supports a U-bar that retains an RIB or a bait board.

An acrylic sliding door half the width of the cockpit provides excellent indoor-outdoor flow between the cockpit and saloon. It also enables the interior to be air conditioned – an optional heat pump distributes warm or cool air throughout the saloon, galley and cabins - and the vessel to be secured at night or when unattended.

The release of the 450 heralds the introduction of an expanded and updated range of colour-ways and wood-ways from which the timbers, décor and finishes can be selected (all models). The four wood-ways - American Oak, American Red Cheery, Walnut and Winge (an attractive dark African timber) – can be matched with four complementary colour-ways that coordinate the fabrics, soft furnishings and galley bench top. However, finishes beyond the standard coordinates can be introduced on a negotiated basis.

The saloon layout provides a crescent-shaped settee and adjustable dinning table to port, and a second settee to starboard. An (optional) ice-maker is set towards the cockpit-end of the starboard settee and the helm seat forms a comfortable back rest at the forward end. The targa hatches, available in frosted or clear finishes, introduce abundant natural light and allow the saloon to be opened to the cruising environment on demand. Entertainment options include mounting a 20 inch LCD screen in the aft port corner and TV/stereo/ DVD equipment to suit.

The integrated helm imbeds the helmsman in the social aspects of the saloon, ensuring companionship and logistical support when underway, and allowing guests to participate in the navigation and helming processes. Expansive areas of glass provide 360-degree visibility and the bow and aft quarters can be seen at a glance. The helm station carries a comprehensive range of instrumentation and the white gauges supplied with the new technology D4 and D6 Volvo Penta engines present superbly against the carbon fibre dash.

Polished natural timber surfaces highlight the gracefully curved cabinets and overhead lockers in the galley. The Avonite working surfaces are bathed in ample natural light by day and Cantalupi quartz halogens illuminate this important working area at night. A combination microwave/convection oven is fitted as standard and a gas or an electric hob is available to suit individual preferences. A top-loading electric deep freeze and under-bench refrigerator take care of the perishables and long term supplies.

The comfortable guest cabin is opposite the galley and it has standing headroom and dressing space in the entry. An overhead hatch introduces natural light and provides a refreshing airflow to the double berth which extends aft under the helm station.

The spacious master cabin is located in the bow and layout options include an offset or island double berth. Features include a personal settee, headboard mirror, cabinets, under-bed storage and provision to place a second LCD screen linked to the entertainment system. The entry is easily negotiated and a Nouveaux-suede moving-slat divider ensures privacy when required.

In keeping with all Genesis models the 450 is hand-crafted with pride using exterior vinyl ester hull laminates, tightly controlled manufacturing systems and independent inspections by a registered surveyor to ensure trouble free operation and excellent resale revalue.

But best of all it embodies the Genesis Marine excitement in design, driving experience and lifestyle. And this new craft provides an affordable step up from our respected 360 and 400 models and a logical transition to the soon to be released 490 (51ft overall).
